So as many of you may have seen, the new stage for the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), has brought some attention. If you haven’t seen it, there will be an image at the bottom.
The stage has been designed in what appears to be the Odal. For those that don’t know what the Odal is; “The rendition of the Odal rune with wings or feet(serifs) was the emblem of ethnic Germans(Volksdeutsche) of the 7th SS Volunteer Mountain Division Prinz Eugen operating during World War II in the Nazi Germany-sponsored Independent State of Croatia. This rendition has been used by the Neo-Nazi Wiking-Jugend in Germany, and in South Africa by the Anglo-Afrikaner Bond, the Boeremag, the Blanke Bevrydingsbeweging, and the Italian neo-fascist group National Vanguard. This particular rendition has no historical significance outside of Nazi Germany. Because of its Nazi associations, Strafgesetzbuch 86a bans any usage of the Odal rune as with most other symbols if used in a Neo-Nazi context (Wikipedia, n.d.).”
The problem with this is, that most people will associate the Odal with the Othala Rune (see image below). Which, as stated above, the Odal has no historical significance prior to Nazi Germany. The Othala Rune is associated with unity, heritage, aid, and safety, to name a few. What this means is that Othala is about connecting with our ancestors, whoever they may be.
With that said, we felt it necessary to make a statement on our stand against the runes being misused/mistaken for hatred. TAC has a firm stance against racism, bigotry, and other forms of hate speech, including misusing the Runes. We fight against all of these, among other things, with our Shieldwall!
To summarize the mission statement of Shieldwall: Shieldwall is an effort to unite the heathen community.
Together we denounce all those abusing our faith to spread hatred and negativity.
