Over the last year we have been hard at work on our Clergy Training Program. From it's inception to the announcement and eventual launch in October our first and foremost goal has been to offer a challenging and thorough course for those who feel called to serve their community as a Goði or Gyðja. We wanted to equip these individuals with the tools, skills, knowledge, and experience needed to serve the spiritual needs of the community.
With that goal in mind we came up with a strict list of criteria we felt necessary to ensure that the participants in the program had what it takes to fully step in to the role of a spiritual leader. While we stand by that standard we have had feedback from those who felt as if our criteria were too restrictive and excluded those who may be a vital asset to the community. After much contemplation and discussion we have decided to change two of the program's strictest requirements. We hope to open the program up to a wider array of Heathens willing and able to take on the challenge.
One Year Membership Requirement
While this requirement was made with our community in mind we recognize that it restricted newer members and those who may wish to join for the purpose of enrolling in the program. We still feel it is important that participants be active members of the community so we have lowered this requirement to 30 days of membership.
Five Years of Practicing Heathenry
Much like the membership requirement we felt this excluded individuals drawn to furthering themselves spiritually. Many of us are well aware of just how much an individual can accomplish in a short amount of time. With this in mind we have reduced the requirement to a traditional year and a day of practice.
We hope that these changes will open the program to more interested individuals and we look forward to seeing the results!
